I would have to say that my favorite holiday is Christmas, and the reason I love it so much is not because of the wonderful music, or the delicious treats, but the spirit of giving that fills the air during this time of year. This last year, my family started delivering treats to friends and neighbors each Sunday afternoon. My children loved helping me bake up some delicious treats, and then choosing families to deliver them to. A few months ago, I decided to come up with a weekly Christmas gift ‘drop-off’ for a Christmas Service Activity for families. But I wanted the weekly activity to have a purpose and to help my children remember the reason for the season, so I decided to focus the activity on Christ and to help invite Him in to each home. I love that my idea and tags go so well with this year’s #LIGHTtheWORLD initiative. This will be a great way for your family to help #LIGHTtheWORLD with Christlike service.
I decided to create some scripture tags that you can use to drop off each week. In addition to the scripture tags, you will also find a ‘Ponder/Apply’ tag. I made a few changes to my tags, so that you could deliver to any person of any faith. All the scriptures on the tags are found in the bible, and each of them talk about Jesus Christ.
4 Weeks to Let Him In
Our family will be delivering our treats on Sundays, so starting the first Sunday in December (or another day of your choice) drop off the first set of tags and the gift that goes along with it (I have included some gift ideas, but do whatever you’d like).
The first tag is the ‘Let Him In’ tag explaining that you will be dropping off a gift each week to help the family invite Jesus Christ into their home this Christmas season. When I think of ‘letting Him in’ I think of a key. I found the key (pictured below) in the dollar section at Michael’s, but I have also seen them online. I also included a great poem called ‘The Innkeeper Poem’.
Another tag includes the scripture from John 6:35, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger.” I thought a delicious loaf of bread would be the perfect gift for this tag.
You could do homemade bread or purchase some from the store. The families will enjoy their bread as they discuss what the scripture means. My daughter’s class just talked about hanukah, and tasted challah bread. When we were discussing this activity she requested that we deliver that yummy bread that she tasted at school. 🙂
How To Put It Together
I have everything you need, well except the gifts, to get started. Just click the link below to print out the tags. I printed mine onto kraft yardstick, but white or red cardstock would work as well. Then, on the night of your delivery, attach the tags to your gift and deliver them!
WEEKLY GIFT IDEAS:
Week 1: “Let Him In”- a key and the ‘Innkeeper Poem’.
Week 2: “Bread of Life”- Loaf of Bread
Week 3: “Light of the World”- Candle
*Week 4: “Wonderful”- A Christmas gift basket with a picture of Christ
This year Christmas falls on a Sunday. You can choose to deliver your last gift on Christmas day or deliver it the night before.
I hope you enjoy these tags, and use them to help ‘Let Him In’ this holiday season. Christ was the perfect example of selfless service, and I know as we serve others, we will feel His love for us.
I hope you enjoy my Christmas Service Activity idea, and are able to use it to help #LIGHTtheWORLD. I would love to hear if you use my tags, so be sure to leave me a comment. And if you get a chance, snap a picture and share it with me on Facebook or Instagram. If you haven’t heard about the #LIGHTtheWORLD initiative you can read all about it over on Mormon.org. And you can find a list of other great ideas over on The Red Headed Hostess!
Thank you so much for stopping by, and for participating in this year’s Christmas initiative to serve others. What a wonderful gift we can give to the Savior. Have a wonderful day!
