Tips for a Smooth Super Saturday {and a Free Printable Planning Sheet}

Hi there!  It’s Valerie from Occasionally Crafty, stopping by to share some Super Saturday Tips to make it the best it can be.  Plus, I have a free printable planning sheet to help you get ready for the big day!

Do you still have Super Saturday in your ward?  I have been in wards and even stakes where it is no longer “allowed”, and some where it is still going strong.  In my current ward, we have had to cut down and only offer a few projects that won’t keep us away from our homes and families all day.

Still, whether your activity is large or small, proper planning is the only way to make sure things go smoothly.  Once you have a date on the calendar, you’ll need to get things rolling several months in advance.  Here’s the timeline we use:

.

3 months before activity

Committee meets to plan activity.  Each member brings ideas of crafts that would appeal to different tastes in the ward.  We offer crafts in different price ranges: 1 or 2 free crafts, a few in the moderate price range, and only one more expensive craft (over $20).  Be sensitive to the financial needs and ability levels of your Relief Society members.

This Super Saturday Planning Sheet will help you organize your activity.  There’s a place to write down ideas, and then you can check off the ones you decide to make.  There’s a place to make assignments, take notes for things to consider, and even a spot to keep track of the things you’ve been assigned to do.

You can download the Super Saturday Planning Sheet here.

The favorite crafts seem to be either seasonal crafts (Christmas especially) or things people can display as home decor.  Check out my Pinterest board for some of the most popular crafts I’ve done.

.

2 months before activity

Committee members or class teachers have sample crafts made and ready to display at church. Signups should begin now however you like to do them- at church on a display table, via a binder/clipboard, or on a Facebook group.  Make sure you have great pictures of your crafts to get the most interest!

.

1 month before activity

Signups end, money is due, and supplies can be ordered.  Do not order project supplies without payment (barring special circumstances) or I can almost guarantee you that you will never see that money. Ask me how I know 🙂

We have one person collect all money and then disperse it out to the people in charge of each craft.  You may organize it differently, but that has always worked well for us.  Make sure you follow any financial policies your leaders have dictated for your ward.

.

Day of Activity

Make sure you have lots of basic supplies like paint brushes, Mod Podge, scrapbook paper, paper bowls or plates for paint and glue, etc.  We have some committee members on setup and others on cleanup so they don’t have to stay the whole day. We also serve lunch.  I find a meal is a huge draw because even people who don’t like to craft will come to socialize and eat “free food”!

I hope this planning sheet is a big help for you in planning your next Super Saturday! We’d love to hear if you use it, so be sure to leave a comment letting us know.
