In just a couple of weeks we will have the privilege of hearing from the amazing leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love this time of year, and I love being able to listen to the amazing talks. This year we are planning on attending a session at the Conference center, I can’t wait! The day before General Conference I will be attending my brother and Sister-in-law’s sealing, it will be such a fun and very special weekend for our family.

But today, I am sharing a fun, NEW, General Conference activity! YAY! Today I am sharing General Conference Dominoes!

General Conference Dominoes

About a month ago I started thinking of a new activity I could add to the other ideas I have shared in the past. I was trying to think of a game, and thought of dominoes. My Father LOVES playing dominoes, so I grew up playing it. I liked the idea, and new my children would as well. We don’t play dominoes very much, but maybe we will now.


General Conference Dominoes

First, let’s talk about what you’ll need to create your own General Conference Dominoes. Here is what you’ll need:

Dominoes: Here are some from Amazon. I  bought ours at a local store, and I also saw some at Family Dollar. Wal-Mart, Target, or even a used set from D.I. would be great!

General Authority Pictures (link below)

Sticker Paper: You can find this at any office store or HERE, on Amazon!

Scissors or a Paper Cutter (I bought mine at Costco, I LOVE it and would be lost without it!) Here is one from Amazon.


Putting Together Your General Conference Dominoes

Print out my General Authority pictures, HERE, using sticker paper. Once you have printed them out, begin cutting each individual picture out (this is where a cutter makes it so much easier). Now that you have all the pictures printed and cut, you can start sticking them onto the dominoes.

You can get as ‘technical’ as you’d like and assign a number to a person or just randomly stick the stickers on. Here is what I am planning on doing.

I have a 28 piece set, so my dominoes have numbers 0-6.  Each set has a double for each domino ( 0:0; 1:1; 2:2; 3:3; 4:4; 5:5; 6:6;). I will begin by choosing 7 people and creating their doubles (2 Pres. Monson’s, 2 Pres. Eyring, 2 Pres. Uchtdorf, 2 Pres. Nelson, 2 Elder Holland, 2 Elder Rasband, 2 Elder Andersen; for example).

Once I have all of my doubles picked and attached to the dominoes, I will begin adding the other pictures to the remaining 21 pieces.

Once you have all of your pictures attached to your dominoes, you’re ready to play!


How To Play!

Turn all of your dominoes face down and mix them up.

Have each player choose 5 dominoes and then set the remaining pieces aside. This will be your ‘draw’ pile.

Have everyone look at their dominoes to see if they have any doubles. If someone has a double Pres. Monson, the go first. If no one has Pres. Monson, then anyone with a double may go first.

Place the domino in the center of the table face up, for everyone to see. The next player will then add to the domino chain by adding a matching picture to the end of the domino on the table. If they do NOT have a matching picture, they must choose a domino from the ‘draw pile’ until they choose a domino that they can play.

Continue playing until someone runs out of all their dominoes and WINS! If no one can play after all the dominoes have been drawn, then the player with the fewest dominoes WINS!

This game would be great to play during General Conference OR you could plan a General Conference game night the Friday, Saturday, or Sunday before General Conference. This would be a great time to get your family excited about General Conference and a great way to get the children to learn about the General Authorities. You could even put together General Conference Activity Sheets (I will be updating mine this week!), you could also plan a fun menu for General Conference Weekend!
