Sharing Time Idea from the 2016 Outline
Introduce the doctrine: Write each of the following phrases on small wordstrips: For the, Son of man, shall come, in the glory, of his Father. (Wordstrips are available at sharingtime.lds.org.) Display the wordstrips in random order on the board, and invite the children to help you unscramble them. (You may want to make a few sets of the wordstrips and let the children work together in groups.) When the children have put the phrases in the correct order, have them check their answer by reading Matthew 16:27.
Encourage understanding: Ask four children to come to the front of the room and hold up pictures of Samuel the Lamanite, the birth of Jesus, Jesus teaching, and the Second Coming. Discuss each picture with the children. Ask the children holding the pictures to stand in random order. Invite the Primary to tell the children where to move so the pictures are in chronological order.
Encourage application: Draw a line down the middle of the board. At the top of the board write “Jesus Christ will someday return to the earth.” On one half of the board write the following questions. On the other half write the scripture references in random order.
• What are some wonders that will take place when Christ comes again? (Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:33, 36–37)
• When will the Savior come again? (Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:38–40)
• Why should we prepare for the Second Coming? (D&C 38:30)
• How long will the Savior dwell on the earth? (D&C 29:11)
Ask the children to work with their teacher to match the questions to the answers. Discuss the answers together. (See also True to the Faith , 159–61.) Ask the children how they can prepare for the Second Coming.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
I read on a Facebook Primary group that many are switching weeks 2 and 3. Today I am sharing an idea that you could use for the week 3 topic. Since it’s Christmas, I went with an ornament theme. I actually shared these ornaments last year for THIS idea, which is really similar to this week’s idea. I hope you enjoy this week’s idea. 🙂
Begin your lesson with the Introduce the Doctrine idea from the outline. I think the children would love working in groups, and for Jr. Primary you could have them work with a teacher. You could also number the slips, and then hide them around the room. Have the children find the slips, and then put them in order. This would work well for children that can’t read. 🙂
‘Jesus Christ Will Someday Return to the Earth’ Ornament Activity
For this activity you will need four small Christmas trees, or have 4 Christmas trees printed onto paper or cardstock (I have provided a printable Christmas Tree for you to use). Label each of your Christmas Trees with one of the questions from the outline. You will also need to print out my Ornament Sheet (link below). On the back of each ornament, write the scripture references from the outline. I also thought you could write a couple words from each of the scripture references that the scripture talked about.
The children will be working in groups trying to find the ornaments that belong to their tree. You could have a small Christmas tree at the front of the room with all the ornaments on it, or you could simply place them on a bulletin board, chalkboard, or poster-board.
At the end, the children will take turns discussing their scripture and showing the Primary their tree.
How To Play
Split the Primary into 4 groups, and give each group a tree, and a list of the scripture references (this will make it easier for them to read them without having to go look at the ornaments each time). Have the children read through the scriptures until they find the one that answers their question. Have them look for key words as well. Once they have their scripture, have them come to the front and pick out their matching ornament. If you chose to write down keywords onto the ornaments, have them find those as well. You could also give them a few blank ornaments and have them write down the words. That might start a great discussion with each group.
After everyone has finished, begin with group one and invite them up to share what their question and scripture is. Continue until all groups have had a turn to discuss their question and scripture.
There are several pages, just scroll to see all the pages included. I have provided fronts and backs for the ornaments. You can choose to only print out the fronts and simply write on the back of that or print out the backs and glue it on to the ornament.
I hope you enjoy this week’s Sharing Time idea, and are able to use it for your lesson. If you do, let me know how it goes. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful day and a great Sharing Time!
