{Visiting Teaching} January 2017: The Purpose of Relief Society

I am so excited to share my January 2017 Visiting Teaching Printables and Idea with you today. I have been thinking about this month’s message, but didn’t have an idea of what to do. Today I read over the message again, and finally had the perfect idea.

LDS Ministering Cinnamon Roll Handout

We have a huge snowstorm going on in Idaho right now, so big that they have cancelled church for us tomorrow. Before the snow showed up, I decided I’d better run to the grocery store and pick up some necessities. As I was making my list, I remembered that I needed to think of something for this month’s Visiting Teaching idea.

I read through the message once again, and when I got to the ‘Consider This’ question at the bottom, there was a word that stood out to me: roles. I love reading the ‘Consider This’ question each month, it’s such a great way to apply the message to your life. I thought about the word ‘roles’ and immediately thought of Tootsie Rolls, but I’m not a huge fan of Tootsie Rolls, so that’s when I thought of Cinnamon Rolls!

What better treat to take to your sisters than a warm cinnamon roll, especially on a cold snowy day. I added cinnamon rolls to my list, and ran to the grocery store.

The Purpose of Relief Society

As I was walking through the grocery store, I was thinking of how I was going to package the cinnamon rolls. I remembered a cute package idea using flimsy paper plates. It just requires 4 cuts into the plate, some tape, and cute ribbon. That’s it!

January 2017 Relief Society Message

Let’s get started! Grab your cinnamon rolls (store-bought or homemade…no judgement here whatever you choose to use) and your paper plates. Go ahead and grab scissors, tape, string/ribbon, and my January 2017 Visiting Teaching printables (link below).

Place your cinnamon roll on the center of the plate, and grab some scissors. You will then make 4 cuts on the plate, here’s a picture to show where to cut.

The cuts don’t have to be perfect by any means. I tried to cut up to each corner of the cinnamon roll, I didn’t measure or look to see if the cuts were the same length, and it turned out great.

Once you have your 4 cuts, you will begin to fold to create your box. Starting on one side, fold in the small flap.

Holding the flap up, wrap the other two flaps around and tape to secure. You could use some cute Washi tape, unfortunately, I have a little girl that is obsessed with taping things, so mine was all gone.january-2017-purpose-of-relief-society

Repeat with the other side of the plate. Finally, grab your string/ribbon and tie it around the box/plate. Tie a knot, and then attach the tag and tie another knot to secure.

And you’re done! You have a cute, and delicious, Visiting Teaching gift to deliver to your sisters.

I created another great printable that you could print and give to each of your sisters. They would be great to hang on your refrigerator, keep in your journal, or scriptures. The color of the printable is more of a mint color, but my ink has been low for the last month, and I think it’s actually low now, so my color didn’t turn out quite right.
