I have been thinking a lot about the April 2016 VT message. I think I first read it right after St. Patrick’s day. I had several ideas, and then called my sisters and my Mom to pick their brain, but I just wasn’t LOVING the ideas. Don’t get me wrong, they were great ideas, but they just didn’t ‘feel’ right. Some people have asked me why I don’t post my ideas further in advance, and I like to think that a lot of my ideas are inspired. I think of great ideas, but if they don’t feel right, then I just keep brainstorming until I get that one idea that gets me all giddy and excited. Then I know that that’s the ONE!

April 2016 VT Message

Like I said, I had been thinking about this month’s message for several weeks now, but I didn’t get my idea until this afternoon while waiting in the ‘pick-up’ line at my children’s elementary school. I was sitting in our car and decided to take a quick look through Pinterest. I don’t even remember what I saw exactly, but I know it had flowers. That got me thinking about seeds, and then it got me thinking of this month’s message. And just like that…I was all excited and ready to visit the nursery across the street to pick up a couple packets of seeds. 🙂

If you’ve read the April 2016 VT message, you might be wondering what seeds has to do with the message. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we know that we are ALL daughters of our Eternal Father, and that we have divine potential. Sometimes we may feel like we are small and insignificant (like a seed), but as we look at the seeds and love and care for them, we can be reminded that we too, can be transformed into something amazing and beautiful!

April 2016 VT Seed Packet

I decided to create a cute seed envelope with several quotes, scriptures, and the ‘Consider This’ question. When I first read this month’s message I immediately thought of the phrase “Daughter of a King,” so I decided to include a cute little crown, and a silhouette of a woman wearing a crown to help us remember that we ARE truly daughters of a king.

There were 2 other quotes that I thought of when creating my printable for this month. One is from the amazing, Sister Neill F Marriott:

“If we earnestly appeal to God, He takes us as we are—and makes us more than we ever imagined.”

And I also included a fun quote from the movie “The Lorax”. 🙂

“A seed may seem small and insignificant, but it’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become.” {The Once-ler}

I love that movie, and thought the quote fit perfectly. 🙂 I decided to have both of these quotes as little quote tags since they aren’t actually part of the month’s message. So if you didn’t want to use them, you could just leave them out, but if you like them, then cut them out and attach to your seed packet.

Putting Together Your Seed Packet!

If you like my April 2016 Visiting Teaching message idea, and would like to make some seed packets for your sisters, here is what you’ll need!

Seed Packets (you can place the whole seed packet into the envelope or buy 1 seed packet and add a few seeds to each)

• My Seed Packet Envelope printable and Quote tags (link below)

Paper or Cardstock (I printed mine onto white cardstock because that is what I had, but I think it would be cute on some brown kraft paper.)

Twine, ribbon, string, etc. (this would be cute with some brown jute!)

Glue stick

First you’ll need to print out my April 2016 VT Seed Packet Envelope printable and cut it out. Cut along the solid lines and fold along the dashed lines. I folded the two sides first, and then fold down the bottom and top. Grab your glue stick and add a little glue to the bottom edge of the side tabs and fold up the bottom half of your envelope.

Next, grab your seed packet and place it inside your cute Visiting Teaching Seed envelope! You could also open up a regular seed packet and add a few seeds to the VT envelope.

Now, cut out your quote tags (if you are using them). Grab your twine and wrap it around your envelope a couple of times and tie a knot. Then slip your quote tags onto the twine and secure with another knot.

You can choose whether you’d like the quote tags on the back of the envelope or on the front. And you’re DONE! Easy Peasy! You could even slip the envelope into a small clay pot to give to the awesome ladies you visit.

Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us… I am newly called as a VT coordinator and will be checking back here often for beautiful ideas. Thanks again!

What a great idea!! I know it will not be very expensive to do this, yet the message is very powerful. I’ll suggest to my Relief Society president to maybe give this out as a handout for the Sisters in Relief Society (again not expensive even if we do a bunch). I’m thinking of giving one to the presidency as my little gift for them this month. Thank you for all your well thought out ideas..

Heartfelt thanks for your inspired handout. I made extra copies for my missionary & her companion…just what they need at this time.

So, I’m a little “late to the party”- yes, it is almost the last day of the month, but I’ve been helping one of my daughters with twins who decided to make their debut 4-1/2 weeks early, so I’ve had a bit more on my plate as of late 😉 but I just wanted you to know how very much I appreciate you for sharing your beautiful talents with the world! You are a truly amazing person and I think we would be great friends! I actually had purchased the cutest little box of wildflower seeds at the Dollar Store in hopes of using them for Visiting Teaching at some point and you totally nailed it! THANKS AGAIN!
