Sharing Time Ideas from the 2011 Primary Outline
ENCOURAGE APPLICATION AND UNDERSTANDING (discussing and teaching others): Display “My Gospel Standards” and explain that following these standards will help us to be worthy to go to the temple. Divide the children into groups. Have a teacher in each group discuss the standards that will help the children prepare to go to the temple and testify of how living the standards has helped him or her. Ask each group to choose one of the gospel standards and then write or draw their commitment to follow that standard. Invite the bishop or branch president into Primary, and have each group share with him their commitment. Invite the bishop or branch president to share his testimony about the importance of temples.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
It has been a crazy few weeks, so I apologize for being late on my posts. I love summer, but it seems like there is something going on every week, so I don’t have any time to just sit and get things done. 🙂
Here are a few ideas that I have for this week. I didn’t have time to type up an outline, but I hope these ideas can help you out some way.
I also want to say Thank you for all your wonderful comments. I have the best readers and y’all leave the kindest comments. I haven’t had alot of time to reply to them (plus our internet has been acting up, which is really annoying) but I want you to know that I do read each one of them and I truly appreciate them. 1. For my first idea I have a fun game idea that would work for Sr. Primary. I call it ‘Charadaboodle’. It’s a combo of ‘Charades’, ‘Taboo’, and ‘Win Lose or Draw’.
Since this week’s focus is on My Gospel Standards I thought it would be fun to pick a main word out of each standard and have the children either act it out, guess the word (taboo) or draw the word (doodle).
-I think everyone knows how to play Charades, so I won’t explain that part.
-The Taboo part is a game where the children will have to guess a certain word. I have included some Taboo Cards that you can use if you want. On each card is a word, the child will need to give clues to the other children to help them guess the word. But they can’t say the ‘buzz words’. The buzz words are found on the bottom of the card. The child cannot say any of the buzz words or else they will be buzzed (lose their turn), and their team won’t score a point for that round.
On my Taboo cards there are some that say ‘Teacher Play’. When one of these cards are chosen the child can choose a teacher he/she would like to play in his/her place.
I also included a few blank taboo cards that you can print out and use.
-The drawing (doodle) part of this game is also easy. Just give/show the child the standard or word and have them draw until the children guess what it is. They cannot draw letters or numbers.
You could play this in teams or as a whole Primary. Choose a child to come to the front and have him/her pick a gospel standard; you could have numbers for each standard written on a piece of paper and placed in a container. Have the child pick a piece of paper from the container and then match the number with the standard it goes with and then ask the child if he/she would like to ‘Charade’, ‘Taboo’, or ‘Doodle’.
When the child has chosen what he/she would like to do give them a few seconds to think about it and then have them begin. Give them 1-2 minutes to act, taboo, or draw their word. If no one has guessed before time is up no points are rewarded or you can give the other team a chance to guess (if you play in teams).
After the word is guessed ask the children what standard it is. Then discuss that Gospel Standard and its importance. Encourage the children to follow these standards and by doing so the will be worthy to enter the Temple one day.
2. Since I shared an idea for Sr. Primary I thought I’d better share an idea for Jr. Primary.
Here is an idea I had:
Have a poster with a girl or boy at the bottom corner. In the opposite corner (up at the top) have a temple. Have a path drawn from the boy/girl to the temple. You can have a path or have 13 different colored squares (one for each standard), you want it to look kind of like a game board.
Tell the children that this little girl/boy would love to go to the temple one day, but there are things he/she needs to do to prepare.
In a bag or box have an item for each standard; it can be an object or a picture. Choose a child to come to the front and pick an item out of the bag. Have him/her show the children what it is and ask how this object can help us get to the temple. Discuss the standard, then move the little boy/girl on the poster one square.
As you discuss each standard move the little boy/girl. After each standard is discussed the little boy/girl will be at the temple.
Tell the children that we can prepare now to be worthy to go to the temple. Encourage them to follow these standards and if they do they will be able to go to the temple one day.
**You could also show the child the object and then have him/her give the other children clues to guess what it is. You can make up a list of clues before-hand in case they need help. Once the children have guessed what it is have the child show them and then discuss the standard it belongs to.
I know this isn’t much, but I hope it can help. Hopefully things will slow down soon (and our internet will start working better) so that I can get my ideas on here on time. Have a great week and a great Sharing Time!
