Sharing Time Idea from 2013 Primary Outline
IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE (seeing pictures): Show a picture of the earth and ask the children who created the earth. Explain that Jesus Christ created the earth under Heavenly Father’s direction. Then show a picture of Jesus Christ and invite the children to say, “Jesus Christ created the earth.”
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING (drawing pictures): Tell the children that part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness was that an earth would be created where we would gain a body so we could grow and learn. Draw six numbered circles on the chalkboard. Divide the children into six groups, and ask each group to read one of the following scripture passages about the six days of the Creation:
Day 1: Genesis 1:1–5
Day 2: Genesis 1:6–8
Day 3: Genesis 1:9–13
Day 4: Genesis 1:14–19
Day 5: Genesis 1:20–23
Day 6: Genesis 1:24–31
Invite each group to come one at a time to the front of the room, tell the other children what happened on the day they read about, and draw a picture that represents that day in the corresponding circle. Read Genesis 2:1–3 together. Review with the children what happened on each day of the Creation.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
OK, so hopefully my life will slow down a little bit by next week so that I can post my ideas a little earlier. 🙂
Sorry this is late again, but I hope these ideas can help some of you out.
Before sharing time collect several items that the children can smell, feel, taste, and hear.
Have all of your items hidden inside of boxes or covered so that the children can’t see them. Have a child come to the front and sit in a chair facing the other children. Blindfold the child and tell him/her that you are going to have him/her feel, listen, taste or smell something. Tell them that they will have to guess what it is.
Some examples: bring some fruit for them to eat, bring a flower for them to smell, have the other children roar like a lion and have the child guess what animal it is.
After you have gone through each of your items and the children have guessed them, say:
‘”Aren’t we so blessed to live in a world where we get to eat _____ (fill in with whatever you brought), smell ______ (flowers), hear animals, etc? Do you know who gave us all of these wonderful things? Heavenly Father & Jesus Christ created this beautiful world for all of us. (You could show them a picture of the world.)
And not only did they create the world, but they also created us! We can enjoy a pretty flower by seeing it, smelling it, and touching it. We can hear the pleasant songs of birds and the thunder in a storm. We can taste vegetables and other good foods that grow in the earth.”
(from April 1989 Friend Magazine)
Show a picture of the earth and ask the children who created the earth. Explain that Jesus Christ created the earth under Heavenly Father’s direction. Then show a picture of Jesus Christ and invite the children to say, “Jesus Christ created the earth.”
Tell the children that part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness was that an earth would be created where we would gain a body so we could grow and learn.
At the front of the room have 6 pieces of paper labeled 1-6. On the back of each paper have the appropriate scripture (see scripture references above) and something that the children could draw that has to do with that day of the creation.
Invite a child to come to the front of the room and pick the first paper (#1). Don’t let them show anyone the scripture or the word.
The child is going to have to draw the word and have the rest of the children guess what it is.
Once the other children have guessed what the object is have the child read the scripture aloud. Then discuss the scripture and what happened on that particular day of the creation.
Another Option: You could also play this like ‘Taboo’.
Have a word (Light & Darkness or Night & Day for Day #1) and then have the children give a certain number of one word clues to describe the word on the card.
Have them give the other children 3 clues or 5 clues and then have the other children guess.
You could also have some ‘Buzz’ words that the children can’t say, but for Jr. Primary you might not want to have the ‘Buzz Words’.
As the children guess each word read the scripture aloud and discuss that day of the creation.
Alright, there’s my Sharing Time Idea for this week. Hope you like it. Have a wonderful day & a great Sharing Time!
