Sharing Time Ideas from the 2015 Outline

Introduce the doctrine: Display a picture of Jesus Christ on the board. Help the children memorize “Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him” (Moroni 10:32). Write each word of the scripture on a separate piece of paper. Post the pieces of paper in random order on the board. Invite the children to look up the scripture and read it with you. Have a child find the first word of the scripture and put it in order on the board. Read the scripture again, and invite another child to find the next word. Repeat until the words are in order. Explain to the children that to come unto Christ means to have faith in Him, to keep His commandments, to make covenants, and to repent when we make mistakes.

Encourage understanding and application: Explain that because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can repent when we make a mistake. Cut four footsteps out of paper (Here are the ones found on, and on each footstep write one of the parts of repentance:

(1) feel sorry

(2) ask forgiveness

(3) right the wrong

(4) don’t repeat the wrong

Place the footsteps on the floor leading to a picture of Jesus Christ, and let a few children follow them. Divide the children into groups and give each group a case study describing something a child might need to repent of. For example, “Someone disobeys her parents by kicking a ball in the house, and she breaks something.” Ask them to discuss how they should apply each of the steps of repentance.

Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas

For this week’s Sharing Time, I wanted to incorporate a great Mormon Message:

The Shiny Bicycle

My kids LOVE this Mormon Message. I’m sure we watch it about 5 times every Sunday!

When I saw the theme for this week, I knew I wanted to show this great message to the Primary children. I hope you enjoy this week’s idea. 🙂

To Begin!

Begin your Sharing Time with the ‘Introduce the Doctrine’ idea from the outline.

After you have finished the activity and have discussed the scripture, tell the children that you have a great little video that you’d like to show them.

Next…watch the video!

After the video you can discuss what was said in the video. Share with the children that the little boy said that he was able to make his bike ‘like new,’ but that it took a lot of work.

Object Lesson

Explain to the children that just like the little boy in the video being able to clean his bike again and make it clean, we too can do that when we make a mistake.

At this time you could do an object lesson (especially for JR Primary) to help them understand a little better what you mean by being ‘clean’ again after making a mistake.

Chocolate Syrup Object Lesson: In previous sharing time ideas, I have shared a great Chocolate Syrup object lesson that I came up with a few years ago. Here’s a quick explanation of what I did:

I invited a child up to the front and had him/her stand behind a table. On the table was a bowl of water, chocolate syrup, a towel, and some soap.

Then, I shared a scenario with the children about the child doing something bad…example: cheated, told a lie, stole, etc.

While I shared the story, I poured a little chocolate syrup on the child’s hands, and then ask them to rub it a little. You can share another scenario and add a little bit more.

Explain to the children that the chocolate syrup is the bad choices/sin that the child decided to do. He/she is dirty, but through repentance he/she can be clean again.

After your helper has cleaned his/her hands, you could explain to the children that there are steps that we need to take in order to repent. Show the children the footprints that were shared in the outline and lay them on the floor. Say the name of each step as you lay them on the floor. Tell the children that they are going to play a game to help learn the steps a little better!

‘Find the Bicycle’ Activity

I also thought it would be fun to do a matching type activity, especially for JR Primary. The activity has to do with the Mormon Message, so the kids should enjoy it. 🙂

First, you’ll need to print out my ‘Find the Bicycle’ Scenario cards, below, and then cut them out.

Getting Ready!

Using a bulletin board, chalkboard, or create this fun matching board from Sofia’s Primary Ideas!

Mix up the cards and attach them to the board into rows. The object of the game is to find 2 bicycles (a match) without turning over a ‘bad’ scenario!

To Play!

Invite a child up to the front and have them flip over a card. If they flip over a bicycle they get to flip another one over to try to find another bicycle to make a match.

If they flip over a ‘Bad’ scenario card, they don’t get to flip over another card. Read the scenario aloud. Then have the child go through the steps of repentance. If you have your ‘footprints’ on the floor, you could have the child go to the first one and discuss that step. Then have them go to the next, and the next, and discuss each step of how they can repent.

Continue by choosing another child to come up and flip over a card. Continue until all cards have been flipped over, or until time runs out.

Close by bearing your testimony.

I love this! I sometimes sub in Primary and this will be a great addition to my “Primary Bag” for when it is a last minute sub and I don’t have a lesson ready! Thank you again. Love you !
