For Primary we usually have a Sharing Time idea outlined for us in the Primary Sharing Time outline, but what about those 5th Sundays? I’ve heard all kinds of different ideas…YM/YW teach, a special Singing Time to review Program songs, special topic Sharing Time, etc.

But 5th Sundays are also a great time to review what was taught during the month. Obviously you can’t just get up and talk about the past 4 weeks, right? Today I am sharing a fun review game to help you out.

Have you heard of ‘The Human Spinner’? I first heard about it on a Singing Time blog, and I apologize, I have no idea which one it was. If you know the one let me know. 🙂

The idea is to create a human spinner, like the ones that you sometimes see with board games.

To create your own Human Spinner, you will need:

1 Spinning Office Chair

Masking Tape

Pieces of Paper with numbers written/typed on them (1-6)

Getting Ready:

The first thing you need to do is look through each week’s Sharing Times and write/type up a few questions. For Jr. primary you will need to make them a little easier, and for Sr. Primary they could be a little more difficult. You could have them search scriptures and answer a question. You could have a video clip (just a section of it) and have them guess what miracle it is. You could even have an object and some clues and have them guess what miracle it is. For example: have some mud and then have clues like…Jesus rubbed this item on my eyes to perform a miracle. Then have them guess what it is.

Game Day!

Before Sharing Time begins, you will need to create your spinner sections. Decide where you will have your chair, and then on the floor around the chair you will be taping off sections.

Let’s use this spinner I found on as an example. Your office spinning chair will be in the center. Using masking tape, tape off several sections. Then put a number in the center of each section. You can do this by having numbers written on paper or use tape to make the numbers. The numbers will be points earned during the game.

You’ve got your questions…your spinner…now you just need the Primary children!

To Play!

You can go over the theme of the month and review a few things with the Primary. Then, show the children the spinner and tell them that today they are going to play ‘Human Spinner!’

You can split the Primary into teams, have Teachers Vs. Children, or give them a goal and see if they can earn enough points to reach the goal (I’ve done this before and the children went crazy trying to get to their goal).

Begin by inviting a child up to the front. Have them sit in the chair and have them reach their arm out or have them put their legs straight out.  Then comes the fun part…SPIN!

When they stop look at the number they landed on, example: 5 points! Next, have the child stand up and read a question to them. If they answer correctly they receive the number of points (5 points). If they answer incorrectly you could ask another child for the answer, but they won’t receive the points. If you play with teams you could give the other team a chance to answer or just tell the children the answer and move on to the other team.

Play until they have reached their goal or until time runs out.

Does this sound like something you’d like to do for your Primary? Give it a try, and if you do I would love to hear how it went.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you enjoy my Human Spinner review game. Have a wonderful day & a great Sharing Time!

That sounds so fun! Another twist on that might be to have the numbers on the floor correspond with the numbered questions instead of point value. Then when they land on #3 for example you go to the board and pick the #3 question up and read it to them. You could do it jeopardy style where they get to pick which category they take the third question from…? maybe…?
