Update: The list of principles that I first received were in a different order than what is now on Mormon.org. I have fixed my cards, so that they match. 🙂
I am so excited to share my idea and printables for the upcoming #PrinceofPeace campaign from mormon.org. I am excited for the opportunity to come closer to my Savior, and find peace through Him, as I participate in this wonderful and inspired campaign. I hope you will join me as we ‘learn Principles of Peace from the Prince of Peace.‘
This year’s campaign, #PrinceOfPeace, focuses on 8 core principles that can lead to peace in your life and will help you draw closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ. When I learned that we would be focusing on 8 Principles, I knew I wanted to create an eight day countdown of sorts to help focus on the principles, which are:
• God’s Word/Scripture
As I thought about my idea, I thought it would be a great idea to include a list of activities to do (scriptures, talks, Mormon Messages, etc.) to learn more about each principle. I was so excited when I realized that this would be part of the campaign, and that there was already a list of activities for each day.
Are you ready to join me on this 8 day experience? Are you ready to study each of these 8 principles to help us find Peace through Christ? I have some great printables to help you out!
Finding Peace Through Christ
As I thought about my pocket banner idea, and how I was going to put it all together, an idea came into my mind, ‘Why not use paper bags?’. I loved that idea! So, I used paper bags to create my banner, and by using paper bags it not only made putting the banner together easier, it created the perfect pocket for my Principles of Peace cards, that you will be using to create your very own journal. I love how it turned out, and can’t wait to begin using it. Now, let’s talk about how you can create your very own #PrinceofPeace Countdown Banner.
(See that beautiful handwritten picture in my pic? You can download for free, HERE!)
You Will Need:
8 Paper Bags (you can find white ones at any craft store)
My Banner Label Printables (link below)
String or Ribbon
My ‘Principles of Peace’ cards (link below)
4X6 photo album (those cheap ones that you can find for $1)
Begin by printing out my Banner Label printables. You can print these at home on cardstock or send them to your favorite printing place. Once you have everything printed and cut, you can begin putting it all together.
You are going to take your paper bags and cut off the ends. You’re doing this because you don’t need the whole length of the paper bag for the banner, you just need to make a pocket long enough to fit the ‘Principle of Peace’ cards. I did this by folding down the ends of the bags, and cutting off the bottom. Then I folded the bottom up, just a bit, and taped it.
Then I glued the banner label on to the front. That’s it! I repeated until all 8 pockets were created. After you have all of your pockets created, you can start working on the cards that will go inside of each pocket.
Principles of Peace Cards
There are 3 Principle of Peace cards for each principle that you can use and turn into a journal. You don’t have to use all 3, but you can if you’d like. The first card is the principle card. On this card you will find the activities for that specific principle. I decided to add an extra ‘Mormon Message’ activity for each day because I love Mormon Messages. Each message is so powerful, and leaves you feeling happy and inspired, so I new I wanted to have one for each day.
But I decided to do something a little different to make it a little easier. See that weird little square down at the bottom? That is a QR code. To use the QR code, all you have to do is download a QR Scanner app on your smartphone or device, then scan the code on each card, and it will take you directly to that Mormon Message.
The second card is a ‘Ponder Card’. On this card you will find 2 questions or thoughts to ponder. Each day, read the prompts and record your thoughts/answers.
The third card is a card where you can write about someone that exemplifies that principle. It might be a family member, a person from the scriptures, a friend, or an ancestor that has passed on. Whoever it is, write about them and how they lived that principle. I thought this would be such a great way to incorporate Family History into this 8 day experience. When you place your cards into your journal, place a picture of that person in the pocket next to this card.
I have also created and included a testimony card. There are 2 different cards for you to use. You can use one card OR you could write your testimony down before you being your 8 day journey and place it in the front of your journal. Then use the second card to record your testimony after the 8 days, and place it in the back.
Once you have the cards printed and cut, place them inside each of the appropriate pockets. If you are doing an actual ‘countdown’, you will begin with pocket number 8 and count down to number 1. Or you can do it backwards, like me, and begin with number one and count up to number 8. 😉.
Before you begin your countdown, meet together as a family and show them the beautiful #PrinceofPeace video found on Mormon.org that will go live this Friday, March 31st. Explain to your family that on April 9th, your family will begin an 8 day countdown. Each day you will be focusing on a new principle.
Show them the pocket banner, and explain that inside each pocket are cards with activities/ideas to learn about that principle. Encourage them to take some time throughout the day to do one of the activities and to think about the principle and questions. Tell them that you are then going to turn the cards into a journal that they can keep. This is where the 4X6 photo album comes in.
After you have filled out your cards, just slide them into the photo album. If you don’t have a photo album, you could also punch a whole in the top and place them on a ring. I have included 2 different journal covers as well…a cute one with flowers, and one without. The night that you discuss this with your family would also be a great time to have everyone record their testimony and place it in their journals.
I hope you enjoy my idea and printables that I have created for the #PrinceofPeace Easter Campaign. My hope behind this idea is to help us find peace and gain a greater relationship with Christ as we study each of these principles. I will be sharing stories and ideas throughout the 8 days, so be sure to follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
I hope you will join me on this spiritual journey, and I hope you will share experiences and stories along the way. The campaigns in the past have been wonderful ways to share the the light of the gospel, and I know this Easter campaign isn’t any different.
