Hi friends! It’s Marissa from Prickly Pear Design Co. Things here in Southwestern Idaho are gearing up for the upcoming dedication of the Meridian, Idaho Temple. We’ve driven by the temple countless times and our little family is so excited to participate in the open house and dedication. I keep reminding myself that I need to come up with temple dedication handkerchiefs sooner rather than later so I don’t have to rush around last minute!
I’ve often seen the beautiful machine-embroidered temples on the white handkerchiefs, we use during the dedication of each temple, online and in church bookstores. I love the idea of customizing the handkerchiefs, and got to thinking about how to accomplish that for those of us that don’t have embroidery machines and the skills to go with them.
I was flipping through October’s issue of the Friend and found that they had simplified the idea and made it fairly easy for anyone to accomplish! You can find their simple temple outline here (as well as a fun idea to build the temple out of sugar cubes) but I wanted to customize it a bit for the Meridian Temple.
The pattern I came up with is a little bit more complex than the one included in the Friend, but it would make the perfect project for Activity Days, a Mutual Night craft for Young Women, or even something you could do with your own family (the pattern looks a lot more masculine on a handkerchief without lace). No super stitching skills or previous experience is needed to accomplish this one – I finished mine in just about an hour!
Here’s what you’ll need to create your own Meridian, Idaho Temple Dedication Handkerchief:
•White handkerchief or white cotton fabric to make your own embroidery needle (these have a little bit duller tip and a bigger eye for the embroidery floss)
•White embroidery floss (I used all 6 strands but you could divide the strand for a sleeker look)
•Embroidery hoop (I had this larger hoop on hand, but a 4″ hoop would be perfect for this size of project)
•Download and print the Meridian Temple embroidery pattern (finished size: 2.5″ x 2″ – pattern and step by step instructions are included)
If you’re looking for more FREE printables for Young Women, Relief Society & just because, I’d love to have you stop by my site. Here are a few of my favorites:

I’d love to hear if you create your own Temple Dedication Handkerchief, so leave me a comment letting me know. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great day!
