4 Videos of Jesus Christ’s Teachings on Charity
Charity is defined as the pure love of Jesus Christ. It’s the strongest and greatest kind of love, as well as the greatest of all Godly attributes.
Jesus is the perfect example of charity. He spent His mortal life helping the poor, healing the sick, being kind to everyone, and teaching others. The following are some Bible videos of Jesus Christ teaching about charity.
Ye Have Done it Unto Me
In this Bible video, Jesus teaches the parable of the sheep and the goats. The sheep represent righteous followers of Christ, while the goats represent those who oppose Christ and His commandments.
One reason the sheep are the sheep is because they have charity. Jesus said that these people fed the hungry, clothed the naked, and visited the sick. They showed charity to everyone and helped those who needed it. The goats are those who didn’t show charity to others.
Jesus goes on to teach in this parable, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40). From this we learn those who have charity toward everyone are righteous followers of Christ who will have eternal life.
The Greatest Commandment
Jesus teaches that the first commandment is to love God with all of your heart. He then goes on to say the second commandment is to love others like you love yourself. He says, “There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:31).
That pure, everlasting love is something we need to have and show toward everyone, from our literal next door neighbors to strangers we pass by at the store.
Parable of the Good Samaritan
This parable clearly illustrates the commandment mentioned above, to love your neighbor as you love yourself. The moral of this story is that it doesn’t matter who needs our help; we should help them.
Before Jesus told this parable, he was asked two questions, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” and “Who is my neighbour?” (Luke 10: 25, 29). From this parable we learn that showing charity to all, like Jesus did, is how we receive eternal life, and that your neighbor is everyone, both friends and enemies, loved ones and strangers.
The Prodigal Son
In this parable, a father’s youngest son leaves his father’s presence, takes his inheritance, lives a wicked lifestyle, realizes his wrongdoings, and then returns to his father. He plans to bow in humility and ask for forgiveness from his father, and work as one of his father’s servants. But instead, his father greets him with compassion and welcomes him back enthusiastically with loving arms.
There are a handful of lessons to take away from this parable. One is that when we sin, we need to understand what we’ve done and come to the Lord with repented hearts. The compassionate father—who showed compassion to his youngest, wayward son and also teaches his eldest to have the same compassion toward him—represents our Heavenly Father, who even after we’ve sinned, rejoices and lovingly welcomes us into His arms when we come to him with repentant hearts.
This story also teaches us how to respond when someone we know and care for has lost his or her way. We shouldn’t judge or forget about them. We should continue to show charity toward them and help them find their way back.
How can you be like Christ and show charity toward others?
I want to thank The Mormon Channel for stopping by and sharing this with us. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!
