Sharing Time Idea from the 2015 Outline
Encourage understanding: Tell the story of Christ healing and blessing the people in 3 Nephi 17:7, 9–12, 20–24, or invite older children to read it from the scriptures. Have the children draw a picture depicting something from the story. Testify of how your love for Jesus Christ has grown as you have read the scriptures.
Encourage application: Sing “Seek the Lord Early” (CS,108). Tell the children that they can learn more about Jesus Christ by reading or listening to the scriptures. Then tell the story found in Mark 10:13–16 of Jesus blessing the children. Show a picture of Jesus blessing the little children. Have the children imagine how they would have felt if they had been there. Invite a few children to share their thoughts. Explain that they can feel close to the Savior by reading about Him in the scriptures.
Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas
For this week’s Sharing Time I was going to share an old idea, and I still will, but I came across another idea that I really liked. So I’m going to share my version of the idea I saw, and the other idea I had in mind as well. Read the idea and see if any are a good fit for your Primary. Enjoy!
I read a comment on Sugardoodle from the 2010 Sharing Time helps that I really liked. A sister named, Kristina, had the idea of bringing in a heart shaped balloon to show the children how our ‘love’ grows when we read the scriptures. Then I found a similar idea on The Primary Planner. Here’s what I’m thinking of doing:
To begin you could ask the children how they show someone love. How do you show your Mother/Father that you love them? How about your brother/sister? Your Grandma/Grandpa?
Some answers may include: I hug them, serve them, I tell them…etc.
Then pull out a picture of Christ and show it to all the children. Ask them if they know who this is. You could ask them if they’ve ever met this person…and then ask ‘then how do you know you love Him?’
Pull out your scriptures and tell the children that even though we may have never met Jesus Christ on this Earth we can still know and love him. Show the children the scriptures and ask the children what they are and why we might need them. Explain that inside these books are stories and teachings from Jesus, and as we read the scriptures our love for Him will grow. If we want to get to know him we must read from the scriptures.
Tell the children that today they are going to read scriptures and watch their ‘love’ grow for our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Before Primary, cut out several hearts. You will also need to choose several stories from the scriptures about Jesus. Try to have a picture for each story, and you could also have a video for one of the stories.
Hide your hearts around the Primary room. Invite a child to come to the front and have them find one of the hearts. Have them bring the heart to you. Show the picture that goes with the scripture written on the back, and ask if the child or anyone else knows what is going on in the story. Read the story or tell it in your own words. Then ask the children to share how they would’ve felt if they were there or if that happened to them. After the story add a little air into the balloon.
Continue until all hearts have been found or until time runs out. At the end the balloon should be filled with ‘love’! You could end with a video from Christ’s life or a song. Bear your testimony of the importance of studying the scriptures and that our love for Jesus can grow as we study.
Here’s the other idea I had in mind. I actually did this Sharing Time back in 2010 and it was great. But as I read it I wasn’t sure if it really got the point across of our love growing for Jesus as we read the scriptures. I’m sure all the children cared about was the cookies. haha
But take a look at the idea and see if any inspiration comes to you. If anything…you could send the sheet home for the children to do at home for FHE. Enjoy!
Back in 2010 I shared a typed up outline of my Sharing Time. To see it, click HERE!
If you choose to do this for Sharing Time, you could do the same idea as above, but cut it short and make the scripture cookies for the end activity.
Have hearts around the room or underneath chairs and have scripture references written on the back. Have a picture for each picture as well. Invite a child to find a heart and then discuss the scripture story that is written on the back. Do this until all hearts have been found.
Then explain to the children that the scriptures can help us in many ways. We can read and learn about Jesus Christ, and by doing that our love grows. But we can also find answers in the scriptures. Tell the children that today they are going to work in groups and look for some answers for you. Tell the children that you found this cookie recipe, but some of the ingredients are missing. You need them to work together to find the missing ingredients.
Split the primary into groups, and give them each a recipe. I created a recipe sheet that you can print, HERE!
Assign 1-2 ingredients per group and have them read the scriptures to figure out what their ingredient is.
After each group has finished, take turns inviting each group up to tell you what their ingredients are. You could have a bowl and all the ingredients on the table. Have them pick from the ingredients on the table and have them add them to the bowl.
Mix all the ingredients together. Have a stash of already baked cookies waiting (if you want to). At the end of Primary hand a cookie to each child.
Then to wrap things up, show a short clip of Jesus Christ’s life. Bear your testimony of the importance of studying the scriptures and that our love for Jesus can grow as we study.
I hope you enjoy this week’s Sharing Time ideas. I would love to hear what you decide to do and how it goes. Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day & a great Sharing Time!
